Powers

  • Necromancy: He has developed powerful necromantic abilities, allowing him to raise and control the dead, forming his twisted army known as The Deathless.
  • Eldritch Magic: The Immortal possesses a deep knowledge of forbidden magics, which he uses to manipulate reality, influence minds, and perform other dark rituals.
  • Cursed Resilience: Although his body is in a state of perpetual decay, The Immortal retains superhuman strength, speed, and dexterity, unaffected by the ravages of time or injury.

Background

Now known as The Immortal, Koshchei was once a brilliant and ambitious pupil of the Order of the Phoenix, an ancient society dedicated to protecting the Phoenix Flame and its sacred knowledge.

During the 14th century, as famine and a subsequent plague ravaged Russia, Koshchei sought the Flame’s power to save his people. However, Zharika, the embodiment of the Phoenix Flame, sensed his corrupt ambition and denied him. Undeterred, Koshchei used forbidden eldritch magics to forcibly bind with the Phoenix Zharika, an act that backfired disastrously. The ritual’s backlash corrupted him, transforming Koshchei into The Immortal, a grotesque being cursed with eternal life but condemned to a state of undeath.

Over the centuries, The Immortal used his powers to manipulate events from the shadows, adopting different identities to further his goals, including the guise of Rasputin, through which he influenced the Tsar of Russia. His ultimate aim is to reclaim the Phoenix Flame, reverse his curse, and finally seize the power he believes was wrongfully denied to him.

Personality

The Immortal is driven by a cold, calculating obsession with power and revenge. His once-noble intentions have long since been twisted into a deep resentment and a desire for dominance. He is patient, manipulative, and possesses a relentless determination to achieve his goals, no matter the cost. Despite his decayed form, his mind remains sharp, and he is capable of great cruelty, especially toward those who stand in his way.

Public Image

The Immortal is unknown outside of niche esoteric circles. His true identity is hidden, with only fragments of his existence hinted at in obscure texts and rumors. Those who know of him speak in hushed tones, fearing the wrath of his far reaching power.

Motivation

The Immortal is driven by a desire to reclaim the Phoenix Flame and reverse the curse that has plagued him for centuries. He also seeks revenge on Zharika, whom he blames for his downfall, and wishes to wield the Flame’s power to dominate the world as he once intended.

Controversies

  • Rasputin Manipulation: The Immortal’s most infamous act was assuming the identity of Rasputin, through which he manipulated the Russian Tsar, sowing chaos and discord to further his hidden agenda.
  • Creation of The Deathless: His use of necromancy to raise and control the dead is seen as a heinous act, turning once-living beings into grotesque abominations bound to his will.
  • Plague of Undeath: The curse that transformed Koshchei into The Immortal also affects those who fall under his influence, spreading a plague of undeath among his followers, further increasing his power.
