Type: Homeless Population
Headquarters: Decentralized

Description

The Drift is the media’s name for a loose assembly of homeless individuals who frequent the city streets and public transit tunnels of San Francisco’s underground. Largely neglected by the city and often viewed as a nuisance, many members of The Drift are addicted to Bliss or other street drugs plaguing the city, or suffer from untreated mental health issues.

Organized into small, nomadic tribes without consistent leadership, each operating independently, with individual members looking out for one another regardless of affiliation. The Drift relies on bartering, salvaging, or sharing resources equally among themselves. Their communal living and mutual support stand in stark contrast to the harsh realities of their existence.

Damian Vale, through his nonprofit entity Leavenworth House, has led efforts to bring The Drift into the public’s focus, aiming to provide housing and address mental health and addiction issues. However, rumors persist that Vale BioSciences, another subsidiary of Envirotech, has used members of The Drift for research and unauthorized drug trials. These rumors have added considerable complexity to the group’s relationship with Vale and his organizations.

The Drift occasionally clash with The Skulls and other street gangs as they struggle to occupy the same space in San Francisco’s social hierarchy.

Ambition

To survive and find stability in an unforgiving urban landscape. While some members hope to escape their circumstances through the aid offered by organizations like Leavenworth House, others remain wary of such help, distrustful of the motives behind it.
